2000: a bass odyssey

http://youtu.be/e3i6vCuGB9o

liner notes:

2000: A BASS ODYSSEY

IT ALL BEGAN IN THE LAND OF THE BABOON, WITH PLANTY OF FRESH FRUIT AND FUCKING. WHERE THE FUNGUS GREW, THE BABOON, THE ORIGINATOR, CHEWED UPON IT AND CREATED ALMIGHTY FUNK UNDER THE SUN.
LIFE OF THE BABOON WAS ACCOMODATED WITH DANGER  AS WELL AS PLEASURE, FOR THE STRONGEST FEASTED UPON THE BODY OF HIS PREY. WHEN A GANG OF BABOONS STARTED WORKING FOR NO CAUSE BUT THEIR OWN COMFORT, THE BABOON BECAME HIS OWN GOD AND WORSHIPPER.
ON THE OTHER SIDE, ON THE TOP OF A HILL STOOD A TEMPLE OF SMOKE, WHERE A  BABOON WAS INITIATED, TRASFORMING UPON THE SMOKE INTO MONKEY MODE. HERE, HE EVOLVED FROM HIS PRIMATE FORM TO A  PRIMORDIAL CONDITION. WHERE THE SMOKE IS THE ONLY PATH TO FOLLOW, HE WANDERED INTO THE PLACE WHERE EVERYTHING IS NOTHING, AND NOTHING IS EVERYTHING.
NOT ACCEPTING THE BABOON AS THE FATHER OF LAND, AND LONGING TO FIND HIS OWN ORIGINATOR, THE MONKEY BEGAN HIS QUEST ALONG A ROAD PAVED WITH ILLUSIONS. HE CAME UPON THE TREE WHICH BORE THE APPLE, WHOSE SEEDS GAVE BIRTH TO GOOD AND EVIL. BUT HE CHOOSE INSTEAD THE FUNGUS, WHICH SPROUTED AT THE BASE OF THE TREE.
FAR, FAR AWAY, THE CITY OF MAN WAS BUILT BY ANOTHER WHO WORSHIPPED HIS OWN IMAGE, AND VIEWED CREATION AS HIS OWN. MAN’S SENSE OF TERRITORY WAS DEFINED BY A STRUCTURE CALLED THE WALL. SINCE HE HAD THE RIGHT TO HIS OWN SECURITY AS SET FORTH IN HIS LAWS, HE DEVELOPED A FORCE WHICH CALLED UPON THIS LAW, AND THIS LAW WAS CARVED INTO THE APPLE TREE FOR TO BEAR WITNESS. THE APPLE, WHICH HIS ANCESTORS HAD EATEN, CARRIED THE SUFFERING OF EXISTENCE -IMPLANTED IN THE STOMACH- AND IT WAS PASSED ON TO EACH NEWBORN THROUGH THE NAVEL.
THE MONKEY CAMEUPON THE CITY OF MAN, VIEWING IT FROM A HILL. AS THE CITY HAD PLENTY OF SMOKE, HE SEARCHEDFOR THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE. WHEN DARKNESS FELL, HE ENTERED THE CITY TO OBSERVE, BUT MOVING THROUGH STREETS AND ALLEYS, HE FOUND ONLY EMPTINESS. DISAPPOINTED THE MONKEY RETURNS TO THE HILL.
THE NEXT DAY, WHILE THE CHILDREN PLAYED IN THE STREETS, THEY ENCOUNTERED THE VISITOR’S FOOTPRINTS AND A PILE OF DUNG WHICH SPROUTED THE FUNGUS. THIS CREATED GREAT FEAR IN THE CITY. THE MEN GATHERED A FORCE TO HUNT DOWN THE INTRUDER, BUT ALREADY THE CHILDREN, WHO HAD EATEN THE FUNGUS, STARTED CHANGING FORM. AS THE ILLNESS STARTED SPREADING AMONG THE CHILDREN, A PANIC STARTED. SO THE CITY CALLED UPON ITS FORCE, ONCE AGAIN, TO GATHER ALL THE AFFLICTED AND EXILE THEM AS MOTHERS WEPT.
ON THE OTHER SIDE, IN THE LAND OF THE BABOON, THE FESTIVITIES CONTINUED UNTIL THEY CONSUMED EVERYTHING AROUND THEM -EVEN THE LAST LEAF OF THE TREE. SO IN ORDER TO SURVIVE THEY STARTED EATING THEIR WEAKEST MEMBERS.
BUT THE CHILDREN KNOWING THAT TIME WAS SHORT, ESCAPED INTO THE VAST NOTHINGNESS WHERE THEY MET THE OTHER OUTCASTS. AND THAT’S WHEN THE REAL SHIT BEGAN…

dedicated to all the rebels of the world

Professor Griff (born Richard Griffin) was the minister of information for Public Enemy until June of 1989. He gave a controversial interview to The Washington Post that included comments deemed anti-Semitic by many. In the ensuing furor, Chuck D eventually fired him from Public Enemy and even briefly disbanded the group, only to re-form them. Griff formed his own band, the Last Asiatic Disciples. The results were mixed, the slant predictably Islamic and Afrocentric on efforts like 1998’s Blood of the Profit.

Buddy Miles “Midnight Rider”
(Allman, Payne)

Well, I’ve got to run to keep from hidin’
And I’m bound to keep on ridin’
And I’ve got one more silver dollar

But I’m not gonna let ’em catch me, no
Not gonna let ’em catch the midnight rider

And I don’t own the clothes I’m wearing
And the road goes on forever
And I’ve got one more silver dollar

But I’m not gonna let ’em catch me, no
Not gonna let ’em catch the midnight rider

And I’ve gone by the point of caring
Some old bed I’ll soon be sharing
And I’ve got one more silver dollar

But I’m not gonna let ’em catch me, no
Not gonna let ’em catch the midnight rider

No, I’m not gonna let ’em catch me, no
Not gonna let ’em catch the midnight rider

No, I’m not gonna let ’em catch me, no
Not gonna let ’em catch the midnight rider

No, I’m not gonna let ’em catch me, no
Not gonna let ’em catch the midnight rider
